Overview of PTC’s functions

Product Development & Improvement (R&D)

Since its establishment, PTC has developed a total of more than 70 new product grades. The following sets out some characteristics of the new product properties and applications developed at the PTC.

  • Polyethylene new products: HDPE blow molding grade with excellent processability for small household and industrial chemical container bottles, bimodal HDPE natural coloured resins for water, municipal and industrial pipes.

  • Polypropylene new products: High flow anti-gas fading homopolymer for multifilament spunbond, natural coloured random copolymer resins with excellent impact strength and stiffness for hot and cold water supply pipes and fittings, high clarity random copolymer for thin-walled containers.

Seminar on Technical Training

PTC plays an active role to grow together with customers by providing technical training on knowledge of plastics, material properties and selection, fabrication processes, defect troubleshooting, quality and productivity improvement, laboratory equipment testing and handling through training courses conducted at customer's place or PTC’s laboratories and machine shop. Since inception, more than 5000 employees from our downstream in the plastics industry benefited from our training programs.

Besides providing the in-house training for customers, PTC, which is holding the chairmanship for the Malaysia Plastics Manufacturer Association – Plastics Technology Training Centre Johor (MPMA-PTTC Johor) also gets involved in activities that provide training for MPMA members on topics ranging from plastic education, fabrication processes, defect troubleshooting, occupational safety & health, productivity and quality improvement and much more. The programs also include hands-on training on blow film extrusion and hands-on training on injection molding conducted at PTC’s facilities. Every year, 3 to 6 training programs and seminars will be organized by PTC for MPMA members and the plastics industry. This has enabled MPMA members and the plastics industry as a whole to enhance their knowledge, skills, productivity and to raise the standards of the plastics fabrication industry.

PTC also actively contributes to the Malaysia Petrochemicals Association – Plastics Resin Producers Group (MPMA-PRPG) seminar and training activities. Among the activities are technical seminars and conferences to upgrade the knowledge of the plastic industries. One such activity is the annual PRPG-Customs Smart Partnership Programs which provides the training to Custom officers on Plastic Knowledge, Plastics Classification and Identification and Quick Test for identification of the types of plastic. This enhances their knowledge on plastics which in turn helps them carry out their duties more effectively.

PTC actively supports trade association activities that address the misleading information, misconceptions and negative publicity on environmental pollution caused by plastic products as well as the health issues relating to safe use of plastics for the food and beverage packaging. Through the effort of Malaysian Plastic Forum (MPA), a group formed by MPA-PRPG in collaboration with MPMA, PTC participated in the public dialogue with the state governments to highlight the myths and misconceptions of plastic bags, promoting the concept of 3Rs (Reuse, Reduce and Recycle) and also conducting seminars to clear the misconceptions on the environmental pollution by the plastics and to disseminate on the safe use of plastics for the food contact applications to the authorities, government agencies, non-government organizations, schools, etc.
